A Field Day with TLC’s ‘1000-lb Best Friends’

Vanessa Cross from 1000lb best friends poses with Throwback Coaches after a field day

Throwback recently hosted an adult field day for the cast of the TLC show, 1000-lb Best Friends.

The show is all about overcoming challenges, celebrating milestones, and the power of friendship. What better way to embody those values than through a day of color war games, fun, nostalgic competition?!

About The Show

1000-lb Best Friends is a reality TV series that follows the lives of four close friends as they navigate their weight-loss journeys.

The show offers a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of tackling obesity.

Each cast member brings her own unique story, personality, and struggles... Overcoming food addiction, undergoing bariatric surgery, and dealing with the physical and emotional toll of their weight. Throughout it all, the friends lean on each other for support.

The series also highlights the friends’ shared determination to lead healthier lives. The show leans on humor and camaraderie to lighten the heavier moments.

1000-lb Best Friends is a show about weight-loss journeys at its core. But it’s equally a story about self-acceptance, perseverance, and the strength found in close bonds.

Best Friends Field Day: A Celebration of Friendship and Perseverance

The show’s Atlanta-based producers asked Throwback to help cap the third season with a memorable finale. The event would reinforce the importance of their shared journey towards healthier lives. Together, the field day organizers created a custom field day packed with nostalgia, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs.

The games brought together the four main cast members, a few “extras” as teammates, and even some of the doctors as team captains. The Throwback team selected five games, each designed to be accessible and fun. We chose smaller game spaces and ran shorter rounds to ensure a safe but engaging experience for everyone.

An Afternoon of Games and Growth

The event kicked off with Balloon Stomp, an energetic and chaotic icebreaker that got everyone laughing and moving.

Egg and Spoon Race surprised everyone with contestants cheering each other on through hilarious moments and unexpected victories.

Blind Maze required contestants to guide blindfolded teammates through a tricky course using only their voices. Contestants expressed initial hesitancy and lack of trust in their own movements, but the game became a standout moment. With encouragement and moral support from teammates and Throwback coaches, contestants began to let go of their self-doubt. By the end of the game, they were smiling, laughing, and, most importantly, proud of what they had accomplished.

Benchball and Tug-o-War rounded out the day with high-energy, team-focused fun. The cast and supported each other and cheered one another through every game. A heartwarming testament to the show's themes of friendship and determination.

Celebrating Success

At the end of the long and sweaty production day, the feedback from everyone involved was super positive. Contestants expressed gratitude and pride in what they achieved. Everyone, including coaches and production, were grateful for a memorable experience.

Throwback Coaches, Austin & Abby, were standouts. Their warm, approachable vibe helped contestants feel instantly at ease and confident to push themselves.

Even though our favorite Throwback moments didn’t make the final cut, we were proud to be part of the series.

We know that field days aren’t just about the games. They’re about creating opportunities for people to reconnect with themselves and each other. The event was proof that play has the power to inspire and transform.
