We’ve devised a Throwback tournament that has all the best aspects of March Madness! Attendance will help during our seeding phase, but more importantly, raw talent, strategy and luck will play a role in our determining our winner.
Anyone can sign up and there is no entry free. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner up.
- 1st Place: $150 Amazon gift card, free 5-pack, t-shirt
- Runner Up: $50 Amazon gift card, free 3-pack, t-shirt
Since everything is based on our 16-minute partner Phys Ed workout, we figured we call it TBF Sweet 16.
Here’s how it works…
March 2 – March 14: Seeding Phase
Scoring: Point system based on attendance
Accumulate as many points as possible to determine your seed in the bracket. You are awarded 1 point for coming to class and can earn no more than 1 point per day. You must attend class at least once during the seeding phase to progress into the tournament.
March 15: Selection Sunday
We’ll build the bracket here in a similar fashion to the NCAA bracket… People who accumulated the most points during the seeding phase will first face off against weaker opponents. We'll monitor performance during the seeding phase to try to make this as fair as possible (ie all strong rowers that came only once during seeding may face off against each other in round 1 of the tournament).
March 16 – April 7: The Tournament
Scoring: Best rowing distance during co-ed Phys Ed each week
You’ll face off against 1 or more people each week depending on number of tournament participants. We’ll advance people based on their best co-ed performance that week. You can partner up with anyone in class regardless of whether they are even in the tournament. And you can partner up with someone different each class. An example bracket may look like this…
If you get eliminated early, don't worry! We'll have a separate bracket for everyone that doesn't make it to the final week. The winner of that bracket will get a free 5-pack and t-shirt.

And for this week only, we're running a pricing special in conjunction with the tournament. We've lowered our unlimited to $169 per month. Or pick up a 10 or 20 class package for 20% off using promo code 'TBFsweet16' on our MindBody site.
Is it an individual or team winner?
Individual. But during play, you partner up with someone in class and whatever distance you achieve with that person is your individual score.
Who can I partner up with during a 16-minute Phys Ed race?
During the seeding phase you can partner with anyone. You get one point just for attending class and we'll reward people with more points with an easier starting round in the tournament.
During the tournament phase, you must partner up with someone of the opposite sex in order for your score to be validated. We don't expect you to partner up with the same person throughout the tournament... that may change from class to class. Since we can't have ties, partnering with an opposite sex opponent during any particular round is prohibited.
How often can I come to class?
As much as you want. During the seeding phase, higher attendance will help (but remember only 1 point per day is allowed).
During the tournament, only your best score of the week will count. If you only come once but have a strong performance, you can still beat your opponent(s) that week.
I'm not the best rower so what if I come a lot during the seeding phase and then get matched up with someone really strong who comes only once during seeding phase?
We'll take this into account when building the bracket. All strong rowers that come only once during seeding may all face each other in round 1 of the tournament.
We'd also encourage you to find a strong partner!
When is the sign-up deadline?
We encourage you to sign up by March 1st so you have two weeks to accumulate points and determine your seed. The absolute deadline is March 15, but if that’s the case, you’ll likely face off against tough opponents in round 1. Sign up using the form above this FAQ section.
What if I get eliminated the first week or second week of the tournament?
We'll have a separate bracket for everyone that gets eliminated the first or second week. The winner of that bracket will get a free 5-pack and t-shirt.
I don't come to class that often so is it worth it for me to sign up?
There's no entry fee you jabroni! You have nothing to lose! Luck is involved and we designed the tournament so you can still win by coming to class once a week.
